Stellar Phoenix Books is proud to announce that "Kiss of the Gods", the fifth book in the acclaimed DEXTA series by C.J. Ryan, is now available. Gloria VanDeen – the bold, brainy, and dangerously sexy heroine of the Department of Extraterrestrial Affairs – faces her greatest challenge yet, as a power struggle rocks... more

Okay before I go any further let me just say this. Manticore is screwed. The whole business with Mesa and the Mesan (comes out of nowhere Navy)has seriously unbalanced things and its made this book a great read but the dark sense of foreboding of the overall tone left me sick and depressed for what is about to come. ... more

This is my first post.Im a big fan of the series. Maticore is in deep.At this point the need to make the absolute most of everything thy build. What they need in the way of firepower cannot be met by current naval construction. The only ways they have to increase firepower is to increase production or to put more... more

I know this is a silly, brainless, and totally self destructive thing to ask, but does anyone want to help me figure out the Militaristic Elements of my Sci-Fi setting. The project is making my brain hurt. badly. can't decide if I want to be derivative or innovative, use a top down approach or a bottom up approach. ... more

Are there any clues about Scotty and Horace?? The only clue I seem to have is that Honor only thinks about McKeon while reading at the end of AaC. I think that if they had not survived, they would have been mentioned. So who is left?? Honor, Alice Truman, WhiteHaven, Capt. Terakhov,(bet he is about to get a big... more

Hey Jonathan I need advice. I'm going to be in Toronto on the 12th and 13th on vacation. I'm hauling wife and kids and in-laws around. Can you suggest the absolutely must see sites in the area? I've got Casa Loma and Ontario Science Center already on the list. Anywhere else? Also if you can suggest a couple of spots... more

According to a newspaper interview, Elizabeth Moon has wrapped up her space opera/mil-SF series at five titles. Five years after it began, "Vatta's War" came to a conclusion on Tuesday, with the publication of the series' fifth and final book, "Victory Conditions." ... more

I haven't posted in a long time but do enjoy listening, it has been tough from time to time not to become involved in some of the discussions, especially the one that won't die ie. movie. Personally I would love to see a movie happen but... thinking about what happened to Battlefield Earth makes me nervous just... more

Hi all; I would like to put up Aegys old site somewhere where fans can work on it. (Yeah, this was the idea behind leeching and starting to fix the site up - three years ago. Sigh. Too many projects, too scattered a life. ) It just occurred to me that perhaps the wikipedia might be a good place to put it. If the ... more

I know its probably a stupid thing to ask, but could someone please point me to where I can find an on-line essay/article/whatever that explains the mass problem. I know I read it somewhere, but I cannot find it again, after hours of searching (Did find lots of other interesting reading). Essentially it talks... more

It's a good trailer -- works when it oughtn't to. Might even be a good movie. The question is, do they have the right to use those quotes? and if not, why? Other than the last, which is clearly Paramount intellectual property. ;) So, are the rest now the same? ... more

I'll need some new books to read (a lot if it ends up raining often). Any recommendations in fun, interesting SF or mil-SF? I used to be able to find something from Baen, but less so since its apparent takeover by the puppets from "Team America"... Jonathan

I was just browsing Amazon and see that DW has a new book due out in March. It's titled "Storm from the Shadows" and it's about Mike Henke going up against Manpower. It's 800 pages which means that there are probably a lot of info-dumps and meanderings but one can always hope.

Tor.com just launched its beta site. They're moving into territory that Baen has owned for a long while, but they're doing things a little differently. One temporary bonus is that that the Tor art department is posting dozens of SF/F book cover paintings as desktop wallpapers, both classics and new work, so you can... more

I was just reading a newspaper article about the so-far futile attempt of the US Government to open a permanent storage site for nuclear waste. I find it just incredible the level of mindless opposition to nuclear power in this country. Make no mistake: these people are morons. They have the same sort of irrational... more

Just wondering: When Honor and Company took the government back, why didn't they return to the standard squadron size? Amoung other reasons, all of their allies and enemies use the 8 ship squadron size. It must get confusing and could cause dangerous mistakes.
