CUSTOMERS: SEARCHING FOR A SEATWEAVING OR CHAIR CANING EXPERT? --
Use the National Furniture Repair Directory on WickerWoman.com, which matches customers with craftsmen/experts in the fields of Seatweaving (including Chair Caning), Wicker Repair, Upholstery and Stripping & Refinishing. The paid ads on the Furniture Repair Directory obviously promote and advertise the listers, but they also help to financially support this Seatweaving Forum and WickerWoman.com

In the interest of the advertisers on the Furniture Repair Directory, all direct inquires for repair experts made here on the Forum will be promptly removed without notice or explanation. Please don't use the Forum as your search vehicle, instead take off-Forum and use the Furniture Repair Directory, or do your own Internet Search. Thank you!

HOW TO POST A MESSAGE TO OUR FORUM:

1.) Profanity, flaming, and negativity are not allowed and will be removed promptly without notice. Keep it simple, stay close to topic and your post will stay online.

2.) No advertising of competing seatweaving, wicker repair or antique Maps, Directories or Forums will be allowed. And if made, will be deleted immediately without explanation or notification.

3.) Want to make a post a question or begin a new thread/message or changing topic? Click on the POST MESSAGE button to start a new post/thread or topic and fill in the form fields. Then select a button at the bottom of the form to complete your message. Clicking on "RETURN to MESSAGE LIST" will take you back to the homepage where all posts are listed according to date of activity.

4.) Get FREE advertising from your posts. Sign each post you make using a signature file, which includes all your contact information and entire clickable hotlink (http://www...) website URL if you have one, blog URL or photo album URL. At least sign with your name, city and state you do business from! You never know when a potential customer or reporter/writer might be viewing this Forum!

5.) Want others to contact you off-forum? If you want others on the Forum to be able to contact you by regular email, be sure to check the box (Show Email Address?) by your email addy when you write your post. Giving potential customers your name, but not having the ability to contact you is just plain nuts. If you are worried about email abuse, (although there are measures here to prevent and discourage email harvest and pharming by bots), then set up a disposable email through HotMail, MSN, GMail, Yahoo! or any of the other free email providers to use here instead of your regular email address.

6.) Want to receive automatic daily email messages containing links to new messages that have been posted here overnight? Then enter your email in the box below. Fill in the Unsubscribe box (using the same one you Subscribed with) to be taken off the list. It's only necessary to subscribe once, to be included in the system.

7.) Use the SEARCH button first! It's located below, directly above the main body of posts. SEARCH before posting to see if your topic has already been discussed, or to locate a topic you want to review or read more about. Duplications clutter the Forum and in four years, we've discussed a lot of topics!

Thanks for abiding by the "rules" necessary to keep the peace and make this Forum a fun place to exchange ideas, educate and continue to build lasting friendships!

The first SeatWeavers' Guild newsletter will be coming out soon, but Jill Woods still needs articles and pictures. You don't have to be an attendee of the guild meetings to write articles you know, so please put on your thinking caps and send her things that you think others will enjoy. Compound Curved Backs ctgarner, Sun Aug 31 12:06PM
I have done one or two of these rocking chair backs before, but it's been awhile. I have one with curves in the rails (horizontal frame members) and also an "S" in the vertical frame members. I have done a search but didn't find any past posts on 7-step caning. Would one, or more, of you please help me get started... more

Hello, All, It is with great regret that I must give up the most satisfying work that a person could have. Rails on Mule Ear Chair doesyourseatneedwork--Doug Edwar, Thu Aug 28 6:12PM
Howdy folks! Most mule ear chairs I have seen have the rails on the sides slightly higher than the rails in the back and on the front. I now have a chair with the rail on the front slightly higher than the rails on the sides. Is this common or a mistake by the chair maker? If it's not a mistake, is there a... more
Katherine's Resin Pineapple Feet The Wicker Woman, Tue Aug 26 8:53AM
Katherine's resin pineapple feet are really the clear ticket to replacing those hard-to-weave pineapple feet buggers, especially if your customer is not a purist! They look great and sure would fool the eye when painted. I have a couple and they are remarkable to say the least! And the pictures on her website are... more

Registration vs. Subscription The Wicker Woman, Wed Aug 27 1:56PM
It seems that there is a bit of confusion concerning the terms "Registration" and "Subscription" here on this forum. And until recently when the... more

I just finished my first wicker piece. It was a seat for a lawn chair. I had to start from scratch with very little guidance. Hickory loveseat DaveT MT, Sun Aug 24 12:55PM
I've been asked to repair a hickory loveseat. The original seat and back have been replaced with vinyl(?)upholstry material strips (imagine a lawn chair). If anyone has done this particular style of furniture before, what material have you used? I'm inclined to think that flat reed splint or flat oval reed should... more
caning in art MIndy King, Thu Jun 12 11:36AM
Many of us collect art with seat weaving as the subject. I was just given a page from a childrens magazine printed in 1878 by one of my customers. the exquisite illustration was drawn by Edwin Buckman, a British printer and print maker. He lived from 1841 - 1930 and he was an illustrator for Graphics Magazine in... more

I've just completed weaving my first ash splint children's chair. It turned out very well. Had some difficulty with the final row, with the warps being tight & tough to weave through. Splint Weaving Tip The Wicker Woman-Cathryn Peters, Fri Aug 22 8:05PM
Regardless of the weaving material, whether it is ash splint, reed splint or wide binding cane, when they are woven in a herringbone twill or other tight weave, I always use what I call "tension rods" as an aide to keep the warp loose. The wooden dowels in either 1/2" or 3/8" diameter are placed on the top of the... more
